WASHINGTON – Subaru is recalling 195,080 model-year 2010-2011 Outback and Legacy vehicles manufactured from Jan. 7, 2010 through May 20, 2011 because of potential windshield wiper failure.

Components inside the wiper motor bottom cover in these vehicles may overheat, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the bottom cover overheats, the windshield wipers may become inoperable, creating a safety hazard.

Subaru dealers will replace the front wiper motor bottom cover assembly free of charge. The safety recall is expected to get under way in November.

Vehicle owners can reach Subaru at (800) 782-2783.
