WASHINGTON – Volkswagen of America is recalling nearly 30,300 model-year 2011 and 2012 Jetta sedans manufactured from March 18, 2010 through August 22, 2011, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Some vehicles had a stainless steel exhaust tip installed at the port during importation. These exhaust tips may extend beyond the original length of the factory-installed exhaust pipes. As a result, there’s a risk that a person could accidentally brush their leg against the tailpipe extension when it’s extremely hot and suffer a burn.

Volkswagen dealers will inspect the stainless steel exhaust tips and replace them if necessary free of charge. The safety recall will get under way in November, NHTSA said.

Owners can reach Volkswagen at (800) 822-8987.
