WASHINGTON – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that Ford is recalling 2,945 2007-MY Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego vehicles for potential fuel tank leaks. NHTSA said the fuel tanks may not have consistent welds between the fuel tank and fuel filler neck spud, which can affect the strength of the joint. In a rear impact, an improper weld could result in a fuel leak or a malfunction of the emissions indicator light. NHTSA said dealers will replace the fuel tank free of charge.
