WASHINGTON - StarTrans is recalling 2,130 model-year 2006-2010 transit buses equipped with Carrier Gen V EM-1 evaporator units. There is a potential fire risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Over time, the fuse may loosen in the fuse holder, resulting in high resistance and arcing. If enough arcing occurs, the fuse holder could melt and pose a fire risk.

StarTrans will notify owners and provide information on how to obtain the retrofit kit from Carrier, along with repair instructions. This service will be performed free of charge.

The StarTrans transit buses covered by the safety recall include MY 2006-2010 Azure Hybrid, Candidate, Candidate II, E-LO, President, Senator, Senator HD, Senator II, Senator Tour Liner, Sentinel Bus and Trolley models.

Based in Goshen, Ind., StarTrans is a division of Supreme Corp.

Transit bus owners can reach StarTrans at (877) 258-1391 and Carrier at (800) 793-4741.
