WASHINGTON - American Honda Motor Co. is recalling 3,336 MY 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour vehicles because of a potential defect in the front passenger airbag, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The front passenger airbag may not have been assembled according to the right specifications. As a result, the airbag may not correctly deploy in the event of a crash. This could place an unbelted child seated in the front passenger seat at greater risk of injury should the airbag deploy, the NHTSA said.

Honda dealers will inspect -- and replace if necessary -- the passenger airbag module free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin around Sept. 22.

Vehicle owners can reach Honda at (800) 999-1009. For reference, the recall is No. R47.
