WASHINGTON - Mercedes-Benz USA LLC is recalling G-Class vehicles because of problems with headlamp grills and turn signal grill covers.

Mercedes-Benz is recalling nearly 2,000 MY 2002-2009 G-Class vehicles because their headlights are equipped with a protective grill that violates federal safety standards.

Dealers will remove the headlamp grills free of charge. This safety recall is expected to begin around November, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In addition, the automaker is recalling more than 3,500 MY 2002-2010 G-Class vehicles because grill covers for the front turn signals may over time diminish the signal lights' visibility to other motorists. Dealers will install improved turn light units optimized for usage with grills. This service will be performed free of charge. This recall is also expected to begin in November.
