TREVOSE, PA - The CEI Group, Inc. has announced the rollout of a new DriverCare Web-Based Training lesson that teaches heavy-duty truck drivers techniques for coping safely with the hazards of winter driving.

Winter Driving is a 25-minute interactive lesson that uses animated three-dimensional computer graphics, high-impact sound effects and a narrated text to teach drivers the best ways to avoid accidents under such typical winter weather conditions as snowfall whiteouts, freezing rain, black ice, snowmelt runoff and fog.  Lesson information is available at
www.drivercare.com/training.

Among the techniques the lesson stresses for safety on winter-slick roads are:

  • Increasing normal good weather following distances by two or three times, up to 12 seconds for straight trucks and 18 seconds for tractor trailers.
  • Turning and braking as slowly and gradually as possible to retain traction.
  • Staying out of highway truck "caravans."
  • Avoiding the use of engine braking and cruise control.
