Nissan Rogues Recalled

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Nissan North America Inc. is recalling more than 163,000 MY 2008-2009 Rogue vehicles because of a potential steering problem.

A screw in the steering gear housing cover may loosen over time and could fall out. As it loosens, the steering response of the vehicle may be compromised without the driver losing complete steering control. But if the screw eventually comes out of the steering gear cover, and large steering inputs are made with the cover screw missing, the pinion shaft may come out of the steering gear. This could result in a complete loss of steering control and increase the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. 

Dealers will inspect the steering gear cover screw to determine whether it is loose and needs to be retightened to the right specifications. They will also install a cover plate to prevent the screw from coming out of the steering gear. This service will be performed free of charge. 

The recall is expected to begin in November.
