WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Lift-U is recalling certain wheelchair lifts sold as originally installed equipment for various heavy-duty transit buses and also sold as aftermarket equipment.

The safety risk is that the outboard ramp barrier could fold in toward a lift passenger, possibly injuring the passenger's feet.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, each vehicle manufacturer will file a defect report and remedy plan for their vehicles that included these wheelchair lifts as original equipment. The vehicles will be repaired at no cost to the owner.

The safety recall is set to begin Aug. 20.

Lift-U can be reached at (209) 838-2400.
