NORTHBROOK, IL – Donlen Corporation recently hosted a career day event for a group of 37 sixth grade students from Jenner Academy in Chicago's Cabrini Green neighborhood.  Accompanied by their teacher, a guidance counselor, and two chaperones, the students were treated to career presentations and lunch at Donlen's headquarters in Northbrook.

The Jenner students, the majority of whom come from families living at or below the poverty line, participated in presentations including those by the Glenview police and fire departments, who spoke about careers in public service. Students were entertained by a tour of a fire truck, while police representatives addressed questions and concerns some students had about dealing with gangs and avoiding gang violence. A representative from PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) Chicago spoke with the students about careers with animals and responsible pet ownership.  This is the third year Donlen has hosted the Jenner school for career day.

"I cannot stress enough the importance of staying in school and completing your education," said Donlen President and COO, Tom Callahan.  "The further these students go with their education, the more opportunities they'll have moving forward in life and we wish these kids the very best in whatever career they eventually choose."

In 2006, Donlen began a "Letters to Santa" program, in which Donlen employees responded to letters that Jenner students had written to Santa. Since then, Donlen has adopted the school to help with basic needs for the children's education and quality of living. Employees from Donlen have assisted with an annual school supply drive, to ensure students have the necessary tools for a successful learning experience. In addition, the company continues to host career days and has helped raise money for summer sports camps.
