WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Terex Telelect is recalling 60 30,000-pound bumper winches that the company installed from January 2003 through October 2008 in certain utility trucks, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

The winches were installed to facilitate working on electrical services and communication lines both on and off road. These winches may be equipped with wire ropes that cannot withstand the pull force of the bumper winch. As a result, NHTSA said, pulling at full force on the bare winch drum may result in failure of the winch line, risking death or serious injury.

Terex Telect will notify owners and replace, free of charge, the wire winch rope if it is less than five-eighths of an inch in diameter.

Owners can reach the Terex Utilities warranty department at (605) 882-4000.
