ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL --- Someone reportedly burglarized more than 50 unlocked vehicles and stole about $150,000 worth of airbags Oct. 11 from Copart Salvage, according to a St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office report.

Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers reported that 54 vehicles were burglarized, with driver's side airbags taken from the more expensive vehicles. Each airbag is worth about $3,000.

The Copart facility covers about 60 acres and has an electric fence that extends around the perimeter. Touching the fence sets off an alarm, and no alarms were reported, the general manager told a deputy.

The thieves responsible, the general manager said, knew what they were doing.
