--- Toyota Motor Corp. announced plans to study U.S. consumer demand for a plug-in version of the Prius.
Reuters reported that Bob Carter, who manages Toyota sales in the U.S., expressed the need to further understand consumer expectations for plug-in cars. He declined, however, to say whether Toyota planned to launch its plug-in Prius before GM introduces its Chevrolet Volt on the market. The target date for the Volt launch is 2010, Reuters reported.
Toyota said last week it would deliver a modified Prius to both the University of California at Berkeley and the University of California at Irvine for a three-year study.
