NEW YORK --- BP and DuPont are collaborating in an effort to commercialize biobutanol, an alternative fuel that's similar to, but reportedly has advantages over, ethanol.
According to a report from CNNMoney.com, Biobutanol is more efficient than ethanol and doesn't absorb water like ethanol does. Unlike ethanol, biobutanol doesn't have to be shipped separately and blended with gasoline closer to the fueling station. Biobutanol can be added to gasoline at the refinery and shipped by the same pipeline used by petroleum-based fuels.
To commercialize the fuel, researchers need to find the right enzyme at the right price.
