ALBANY, N.Y. --- AARP New York and consumer groups have scheduled a press conference Wednesday to express their support for a state bill that would require phone companies to enhance cell phone safety functions. The Wireless Telephone Service Consumer Protection Act would require cell phone companies to provide more detailed coverage maps, including where the emergency e-911 function works. Supporters of the bill say the legislation would increase the potential for cell phones to aid in an emergency. Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer and Assemblyman Daniel O'Donnell are also scheduled to speak at the press conference. O'Donnell is the bill's sponsor.
