CHARLESTON, West Va. --- Roane County is one of 15 West Virginia counties to have recently transitioned its school bus fleet to alternative fuels.
The state Department of Education reimburses counties up to 95 percent of their fuel costs when they use alternative fuels. Otherwise, they get 90 percent reimbursement. That has proved to be an effective incentive in getting school districts to make the switch, according to a report in the Charleston Gazette newspaper.
Results from a bus pollution study released in June also suggest that using biodiesel in school buses is better for students' health.
