WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a set of criminal penalties and fines of up to $150 million for energy companies found guilty of price gouging, the AP reported. The House approved the legislation on a vote of 389 to 34. Violators would be subject to large fines and jail time. However, lawmakers acknowledged that the bill provides no easy fix for skyrocketing gas prices. The Senate hasn’t considered the legislation yet.
