DETROIT - Gasoline prices are approaching post-Katrina rates. The average price of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.74 a gallon this past Friday, according to Automotive News, which is a 13-cent increase in just one week. In some areas, such as Detroit, a gallon of premium unleaded has surpassed $3. Diesel fuel is also increasing in price. Last week, the average selling price was $2.76. The highest price for regular unleaded was $3.31 a gallon in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, according to www.GasPriceWatch.com. While Sandy, Utah, is reported to have the lowest pump prices at $2.16 a gallon.
