ISELIN, NJ — On Sept. 22, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) voted not to adopt the South Coast Fleet rules for school buses and waste collection vehicles, but did adopt the fleet rule for transit buses, according to the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA). Prior to the meeting, California NAFA members met with board members to provide information on the impact of the fleet rules on fleet operations, particularly with respect to cost, reliability, and fueling needs. The South Coast Fleet rules are still in effect, but without the regulatory backstop that the CARB rules would have provided with respect to school buses and waste collection vehicles. NAFA President Charlie Gibbens noted that the hard work and dedication of many members helped NAFA fulfill its role as a powerful public advocate for the fleet industry.
