New Jersey City University is saving money on fleet fuel cost. The Department of Facilities & Construction Management – University Fleet Services purchased two new ultra low-emissions gasoline/electric hybrid vehicles this fiscal year. The hybrid vehicles replaced two of the older vehicles in the University’s fleet. Hybrid vehicles are environmental friendly and deliver better gas mileage by switching between the gasoline engine and the electric motor. The new vehicles are capable of providing up to 60 miles per gallon in the city compared to the older vehicles which typically provided about 25 miles per gallon. The fleet supervisor, Patrick Bartole said he plans to steer the University toward the purchase of more hybrids as older vehicles are replaced.
