A confidential security session is scheduled for Truck Rental and Leasing Association (TRALA) members with officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) during TRALA’s 2004 annual conference in Phoenix. The March 31 security session will allow TRALA members to meet directly with TSA officials to exchange ideas and discuss concerns regarding truck-related security issues. TRALA has been actively involved with TSA since the agency’s inception in November 2001 as the organization evaluates security needs and options for truck transportation. In a recent meeting with TRALA representatives, TSA Deputy Assistant Administrator Mark Johnson emphasized that potential terrorist strategies could involve both commercial and consumer truck-renting and leasing operations. In addition to the planned members-only security session, TRALA has invited a senior-level U.S. Department of Homeland Security official to be a keynote speaker during one of the conference’s general sessions.
