The El Paso City Council may award a Dallas company a $700,000 contract for police cars, according to a story in the El Paso Times on January 2. Under the proposal before the city council, the cars — to be used as unmarked units by police investigators — would be leased during a two-year period from Capps Rent A Car Inc. The number of cars to be leased wasn't available. Police spokesman Javier Sambrano said the department would pay for the cars through a combination of state and federal grants. "These cars, which will be unmarked, are needed for our investigative units," Sambrano said.
