Toyota announced that orders for the new second-generation Prius hybrid sedan reached approximately 11,000 units in the first two weeks of sales, reports Just-Auto.com. Previously, the company had estimated a first month target of 5,000 sales. A company release indicated that orders have spanned a wide spectrum of age groups, and the popularity of the fuel-efficient vehicles is rapidly growing. Toyota started selling the hybrid sedan in 1997 and has sold 120,000 units worldwide. The new, larger, more powerful and more fuel-efficient Prius is selling at the same price as its predecessor, and the company hopes to reach its sales goal of 300,000 units worldwide by mid-decade.
