The national average price of gasoline (regular unleaded) was $1.56 per gallon as of April 28, according to price data released by the Energy Information Adminstration (EIA). The average price of gas has declined for six straight weeks since hitting a 2003 high of $1.73 on March 17 and surpassing the $2/gallon mark in parts of the country. The EIA, which is a statistical agency of the U.S. Department of Energy, earlier forecasted a summer (April-Sept.) national average of $1.56 per gallon.
