General Motors, DaimlerChrysler AG’s Chrysler, and other automakers are planning to put thousands of battery-operated cars on California’s streets to comply with a zero-emission vehicle law, even though the state might not be able to enforce the legislation, according to a recent Bloomberg News report. GM and Chrysler won initial court rulings that prevent the state from enforcing the law by 2003, although they marching ahead will plans for the enviromentally-friendly vehicles just in case.
