GM spokesman Pete Barkey announced that GM's first mass-produced fuel cell vehicles will not arrive before the end of the decade. Barkey was denying reports from Japan that reported the target date as soon as 2008. Barkey says GM still plans to mass-produce the vehicles and that the goal of GM is not to be the first to market the vehicles. GM says it will continue to develop its gasoline reformer technology, start testing potential production of fuel cells by 2008 and, if the market is ready, start mass-producing the vehicles by 2010.
