Ford Motor Co. announced July 1 that they had responded to a formal approach on June 26 by Arizona Attorney General Janet Napolitano over the safety of the Crown Victoria Police vehicle. Ford Vice President of Safety Susan Cischke said the company would take "a series of immediate actions." The concern over the vehicle stems from the deaths of three Arizona police officers in fires after their cars were involved in high-speed rear-end collisions. Ford claims they are forming a technical task force, including experts from the military, racing and aviation industries to begin testing police vehicles with fuel tank bladders, shielding and trunk packs to improve crashworthiness.
