According to the WEX Index of fuel prices across the country, California once again leads with the highest pump prices in the nation. All the cities in the top 10 highest-priced locations in the Index were above the national average of $1.41 per gallon, but San Francisco and Los Angeles exceeded the average by 20 cents or more per gallon. Next highest was the Chicago area, with prices above $1.50 per gallon for unleaded regular. Analysts at WEX indicate that much of this is due to the specially blended gasolines that must be produced for these areas.
