Lincoln is making an entrance into the mid-size luxury SUV segment with the all-new 2003 Aviator. The first mid-size luxury sport/utility vehicle from Lincoln will offer an all-aluminum, 4.6-liter V-8 engine that produces 302 horsepower while still qualifying as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) under the strict California emission rules. The Aviator goes into production this summer. Lincoln expects that 80 percent of the customers for the new Aviator will also be new to the Lincoln brand. The Aviator is a companion to the Lincoln Navigator, which is also all new for 2003, and has a 40 percent share of the luxury full-size SUV segment. The Lincoln Aviator was designed from the onset to complement the Navigator, as is evident both outside and inside the new vehicle. On the exterior, there is the chromed signature Lincoln grille. Aviator's interior has the same blend of design cues -- satin nickel, American walnut burl wood, premium leather and white light-emitting diode (LED) instrument lighting.
