Former iMotors CEO Adam Simms has been named vice president of used vehicles at AutoNation. Simms, who led iMotors until it closed in April, will drive sales and growth for AutoNation’s $3.9 billion used-vehicle business. AutoNation sells vehicles at 368 new-vehicle franchises in 17 states. Simms founded iMotors in 1999 as an online outlet for used-vehicle sales. Online customers would specify the vehicles they wanted, and iMotors would find and recondition them before selling to the customer. After an expansion in 2000 that included reconditioning centers in Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Sacramento, CA, iMotors scaled back operations. It cut its workforce by 30 percent in early April before shutting down April 25. Simms’ automotive retail career has spanned 18 years and many manufacturer brands, according to Michael Maroone, president of AutoNation.
