The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that alcohol-related traffic fatalities increased in 2000 since 1995. NHTSA says that 40 percent of all traffic fatalities, accounting for 16,653 deaths, were alcohol-related in 2000. In 1999, 15,976 deaths were alcohol-related, or 38 percent of all traffic fatalities.
