AUSTIN, Texas --- Texas Gov. Rick Perry this week threatened to veto a state bill that calls for a moratorium on toll roads. Moreover, he said he would call the Legislature back into special session if lawmakers succeed in overriding his veto, according to the Houston Chronicle. House Bill 1892 seeks to impose a two-year moratorium on the state building toll roads. However, the bill also gives Harris County commissioners more autonomy to build toll roads without involving the state's Transportation Department. Perry argued that if passed, the bill would sharply reduce highway funding for the Dallas-Fort Worth area and would stall planning of Trans-Texas Corridor 69, a toll road important to the Rio Grande Valley. Both chambers of the Legislature have passed the bill.
