Enterprise Fleet Services announced on January 15 that it is planning a more than 29,087-square-foot expansion for its Operations Center in Maplewood, Mo. (St. Louis County). The new space is designed to comply with the highest standards established for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. "We're excited to be creating a environmentally friendly business setting and believe that corporate real estate is one area in which we can demonstrate our concern for the environment," said Steve Bloom, senior vice president for Enterprise Fleet Services. "While we are looking forward to receiving LEED certification when the space is completed in June 2004, the true winners will be our employees who will benefit from a more user-friendly design in the new work space." The Operations Center expansion project, which has already received preliminary acceptance by the U.S. Green Building Council, represents the first and only time a fleet management company has been considered for LEED certification, according to Enterprise Fleet Services. Based on well-founded scientific standards, LEED certification emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies for sustainable site development, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Only those projects that have been accepted by the U.S. Green Building Council can be considered for LEED certification.
