The Maine Turnpike Authority approved a ban on trucks from the left lane of the state's three-lane highways, the Associated Press reported on November 20. The rule will go into effect in the spring. The decision covers the state turnpike and the stretch of Interstate 95 from the New Hampshire border to York. Although the authority said the ban is a way to improve air quality, truckers are not convinced it would make an environmental difference, the AP report said. The Maine Motor Transport Association has not taken a formal position on the ban.
