Daimler Vans USA is recalling several Sprinter models for issues related to tire installation and replacement.

The manufacturer said it may have improperly installed tires on 54 Mercedes-Benz Sprinters and Freightliner Sprinter vehicles equipped with winter tires. This recall impacts the 2019-MY Sprinter 1500, Sprinter 2500, Sprinter 3500, and Sprinter 4500.

The aforementioned models are also being recalled for the 2018-2019 model years due to a missing spare tire maximum speed label and an incorrect spare tire label.

Without a spare tire maximum speed label, an operatory may be unaware of the maximum speed limit of the spare tire and operate the vehicle at an excessive speed, thereby increasing the risk of tire failure and crash. This recall has potentially impacted 332 units.

Meanwhile, missing the spare tire label, drivers could misinterpret the kph as mph and operate the vehicle with the spare tire installed at higher speeds than the tire can withstand, increasing the risk of a crash. This recall has potentially impacted 289 units.

Daimler said it would notify owners, and Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner Sprinter dealers would inspect the vehicles and make the repairs and changes free of charge. Owners may contact Daimler Vans USA customer service at (877) 762-8267.

The recalls for each are expected to begin May 1, 2020.
