Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC has issued two independent safety recalls across various models for two different problems.

The automaker is recalling an estimated 6,517 2019-2020 G550 4MATIC and G63 AMG 4MATIC vehicles for a brake issue. Specifically, an electrical resistor within the differential locking module may malfunction, interrupting communication between the control unit and the differential locking actuator, possibly resulting in the deactivation of the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) while driving.

This scenario can be hazardous and increases the likelihood of a collision.

To fix the problem, MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the differential locking modules and replace them as necessary, at no cost to customers.

MBUSA is also recalling an estimated 2,101 vehicles for an instrument cluster software issue. The recall includes 2020 CLA250, CLA250 4MATIC and CLA35 AMG 4MATIC, 2020-2021 GLE350, GLE350 4MATIC, GLE450 4MATIC, GLS450 4MATIC and GLS580 4MATIC and 2021 GLE53 AMG Coupe, GLE63S AMG 4MATIC, GLS63 AMG 4MATIC and Maybach GLS600 4MATIC vehicles.

The particular problem is that the instrument cluster software may deactivate the illumination of certain interior switches like the switch bar, overhead control unit, and steering wheel, for example, if the hazard lights are turned on and the ignition switch is in the 'off' position.

If the interior switches are not illuminated, they may be more difficult to identify and operate, increasing the risk of a crash.

To remedy the matter, MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will update the instrument cluster software, at no cost to owners.

Both recalls begin April 14, 2020. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at (800) 367-6372.
