Mazda North America Operations is recalling an estimated 146 2019 CX-9 midsize SUVs for a tire tread problem.
Specifically, during the manufacturing process, rubber compound use for prototype production was accidentally mixed into the rubber compound for standard production.
This scenario can cause the tire tread strength to diminish. If the tread rubber partially separates from the tire body, it could potentially lead to vehicle instability, increasing the likelihood of a collision.
In addition, partial rubber separation from the tread or irregular tread wear may also occur.
Mazda is unaware of any accidents, injuries or fatalities associated with this defect.
The automaker has not yet announced a remedy for this matter.
