Despite negative publicity, a survey has revealed that the public of Washington, DC favors speed cameras. The city has been using cameras to identify and ticket speeders, and results so far indicate that the program is beneficial. Proportions of speeding vehicles have reportedly declined around the city. Although speeds may have come down, the cameras have attracted some bad press and complaints. But the city says support for the cameras continues. About half (51 percent) of the D.C. residents surveyed said they favor the cameras. Thirty-six percent said they're in opposition.
