Daimler Vans USA is recalling an estimated 52,004 2018 to 2019 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter full-size vans for a hood problem. Specifically, the screw connection on the upper hood catch may have been improperly tightened.

This situation means several factors including the speed of the vehicle, wind resistance, and road conditions can potentially cause the hood to open while the vehicle is in motion.

A hood that opens while driving can reduce the driver’s visibility, increasing the likelihood of a collision.

To fix the problem, DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the screw connection, tightening it as necessary, at no cost to owners.

Owners can reach DVUSA customer service at (877) 762-8267. The recall begins Nov. 1. DVUSA’s reference number for this recall is VS3HAUBOSS.
