Despite the decline, several automakers saw notable growth on the month, according to Dataforce. Toyota was the No. 1 ranked brand and saw its success with the Yaris, RAV4, and Corolla Touring Sports models. Following this was Renault, which saw a 51.2% growth due in part by the success of the Megane small family car. Ford also saw a 24.2% growth, SEAT was up by 20.8%, and Skoda saw a 18.9% increase.

The overall month declines were attributed in drops by several premium brands, including Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, whose registrations fell by 18.7%, 7.0%, and 5.3% respectively. Volkswagen also saw a significant drop of 46.2%.

Meanwhile, registrations of light commercial vehicles in the true fleet market were down by 6 .1% in August, though, year to date, there was a 4.7% increase.
