New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey is pushing for a law that would outlaw the use of handheld cell phones while driving, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Although some cities have their own rules regarding cell phones, New York is the only state that has passed a law banning handheld phones while driving. The only exception under McGreevey's proposal would be during emergencies, the story said. The New Jersey Assembly has already passed a bill prohibiting cell phone use by school bus drivers.
