The light commercial vehicle market in Germany was up by 12.3% in the first five months of 2019 when compared to the same period of time last year.

Registration volumes for the top 10 automotive brands were also up from the same time last year, except for Renault. Notable increases included Ford in third place, which saw a 20.8% increase and Iveco in ninth place, which grew by 36%, according to Dataforce. Conversely, Renault was down 2.5%.

In front of Ford, in terms of LCV registrations for Germany, was Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz, and top five vehicles leading the charge for their respective manufacturers included the Volkswagen Transporter; Mercedes-Benz Sprinter; Volkswagen Caddy, Mercedes-Benz Vito; and Volkswagen Crafter, reports Dataforce.

With regards to fuel type, 91.4% of all newly registered LCV were equipped with a diesel powertrain, which was up 1% from the previous year. This was at the expense of gasoline engines, whose share fell from 7.4% to 6.2%. Meanwhile, shares of alternative fuel vehicles rose by 0.1%.
