The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup is adding an array of updates for the 2020 model year, including expanded availability of an optional V-8 engine, and some extra technology.

Buyers of the truck can now add the optional 6.2-liter V-8 that makes 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque on more than half of the trim grades, including the Custom Trail Boss, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ and High Country models. The engine is paired with with GM's 10-speed automatic transmission and with a specific set-up the truck can tow up to 13,400 pounds. GM is offering an optional upgrade that can boost power to 435 hp and 469 lb.-ft. with a new exhaust and intake.

The pickup will also offer a new 3.0-liter diesel inline-six cylinder that makes 277 hp and 460 lb.-ft. The diesel is available on LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country.

GM is also offering its 10-speed transmission with the 5.3-liter V-8 engine as standard equipment on LT Trail Boss and available on High Country. Lower trims will retain the carryover eight-speed transmission.

The 2020 Silverado is also adding some technology from its Silverado HD larger sibling, including the camera system with 15 views, including the "transparent trailer" that allows a driver to see objects behind the trailer.
