Kia Motors America is recalling an estimated 197 2019 Sedona minivans equipped with an eight-passenger seat arrangement for a seat belt issue.

Specifically, the buckle for the second-row middle seat may have been improperly installed on the wrong side of the seat, preventing the proper use of the three-point seat belt.

Seat belts that cannot be utilized increase the likelihood of injury in the event of a crash.

To fix the problem, Kia has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the seat belt installation, reinstalling the seat belt buckle to the correct side if needed, at no cost to owners.

The recall began April 8. Owners can reach Kia customer service at (800) 333-4542. Kia’s reference number for this recall is SC177.
