BMW of North America, LLC, is recalling nearly 10,000 2017-2019 MINI Cooper Countryman vehicles because they may be missing a crash protection plate near the high-pressure fuel pump.

With this scenario, the fuel pump can become damaged, potentially causing a fuel leak and increasing the chance of a fire.

To fix the problem, MINI will notify owners, and dealers will install a crash protection plate, at no cost to owners.

The recall begins Oct. 15. Owners may contact MINI customer service at (866) 825-1525.
