July is a typically strong month for vehicle registrations in France, and this month is not an exception, as the True Fleet market saw a 16.9% increase over the same time last year, according to Dataforce.
The market leader through the month was Renault, as the manufacturer saw a 31.5% increase in registrations. One of the biggest volume drivers for the company was its Megane compact car, which experienced a 57.6% increase in registrations through the month.
The boost in registrations that the Megane experienced also allowed it to narrowly unseat the Peugeot 308 as the segment leader in July.
Peugeot and Citroën followed in terms of market share through the month, respectively. The predominance of the French OEMs is a norm in their home market, Dataforce noted.
Outside of French manufacturers, Volkswagen had a strong showing in July, growing registrations by 25.3%. Toyota and Nissan also saw impressive growth at 32.2% and 32.9%, respectively.
Vehicle Segment Performance
The medium-sized SUV segment reached a record share of 10% in July, in large part to the DS 7 Crossback, although new entries such as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Renault Koleos, and Škoda Kodiaq also helped the success of the segment.
