Dave Schiller CAFM, fleet and materials manager, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MNDNR), retired on August 1. Schiller joined MNDNR in 1975, working in the Forestry Division. He became the fleet manager in 2002.
The MNDNR fleet consists of 5,000 assets, consisting of on-road units, trailers, and off-road equipment. The fleet equipment is used to manage natural resources across the state, including clean water, hunting land, state parks, forest land, and game and fish law enforcement.
During the last 16 years, Schiller was instrumental in leading the move toward a safer, cleaner fleet. He led the establishment of equipment lifecycles to reduce maintenance costs as well as the creation of vehicle selector lists to direct users to the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly vehicles available. These efforts led to a 25% reduction in gallons of fuel consumed over the last 10 years.
The fleet has earned numerous awards, including from the 100 Best Fleets and the Green Fleet program. It is also a Tier 3 NAFA Sustainable Fleet.
Paul Johnson, CAFM, has been named the new fleet and materials manager.
