General Motors is recalling an estimated 71 2018 Chevrolet Sonic vehicles because a joint in the driver’s seat-back frame may be improperly welded and could compromise the strength of the frame. If this is the case, the seat-back could fail during a rear-impact crash, increasing the risk of injury.

To remedy the problem, GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver’s seat-back, at no cost to owners.

At this time, GM has not yet provided a notification schedule. Vehicle owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at (800) 222-1020. GM’s number for this recall is 18178.
