Commercial vehicle sales in South Africa increased by 13,977 units in May 2018, which was a 3.2% increase compared to the same time in 2017, according to IOL.
Overall, new-car sales grew by 2.4% over May 2017, selling 42,984 units, according to Car Mag. For May 2018, the top selling pick-up trucks were the Toyota Hilux (3,338 sales), Ford Ranger (2,819 sales), and the Volkswagen Polo (1,979 sales). Other automakers with top selling trucks included Nissan with the NP200 (1,825 sales) and Isuzu’s KB (1,298 sales).
The association expects vehicle sales to show a gradual improvement due to further recovery in domestic demand, according to IOL. This is supported by continued moderation in new vehicle price inflation, the improvement in South Africa’s political and policy environment, a reduction in interest rates and unchanged international credit ratings.
