Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling approximately 2,761 2018 Jeep Compass vehicles because the front lower control arms may be improperly welded, which can lead to separation of the control arm. In the event the control arm detaches, it can cause a loss of control of the vehicle increasing the chance of a crash.

To fix the problem, Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the front lower control arms, if needed, at no cost to owners.

The recall begins June 20. Owners can reach Chrysler customer service at (800) 853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is U42.
